The process of earning a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in Texas requires you to first pass the Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) exam. The CLP exam is a computer-based written exam comprised of 105 questions that cover four subject areas.

What is a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)? 

A Commercial Learner’s Permit, also known as a CLP, is a permit from the Texas Department of Public Safety that enables you to practice driving commercial vehicles and prepare for your CDL test.
