Open the door to a career in healthcare as a Patient Care Technician.

Patient care technicians provide daily care for patients. Under the supervision of a registered nurse or nursing team, they assist with a number of important duties, including collecting blood and urine samples, checking vital signs, conducting certain medical tests, and recording results as well as helping patients with exercise and mobility.

What you’ll be learning

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Specialized medical exams: Phlebotomy and EKG
  • Fundamentals of patient care, including bathing, feeding, and catheter care
  • Infection control and patient safety
  • CPR and basic first aid

What to Expect After Graduation

Graduates will be prepared to take the Nationally Certified Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) exam. Patient care technicians work in a variety of medical settings, including hospitals, doctor’s offices, clinics, nursing homes, and home health care services. Although many are generalists, there are some possible specializations if you follow this career path, including telemetry technician, dialysis technician, and emergency room technician. Some may require extra training or education.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Photo ID
  • Authorization to work in the U.S.
    (Social Security, Birth Certificate, Work Visa, or Green Card)
  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred, but not required
  • Must pass a background check
  • Passing scores on entrance assessments
  • Proof of a negative tuberculosis test within the last year
  • Provide acceptable evidence for required vaccinations

Note: All students must attend a mandatory orientation before the first day of class.
